Basic Solar Power System and Wind Power System Set Up

This Illustration below is a good example of a basic solar power system or wind power systems electricity pathways from the solar panels and / or wind turbines through to your outlets in your home .
Note: These illustrations of implementing an alternative power source is not to be used as a blueprint-  it is just a rough overview and has been simplified to make understanding much easier. Maintaining a Solar Powered or Wind Powered Home

A solar powered or wind powered home requires a little checking now and then to make sure everything is working correctly but that`s about all.

Regular maintenance is not too hard, however every 5-10 years you will need to replace your solar panels because they loose efficiency over the years or even quite possibly stop working.

If this happens you should build a replacement solar panel a little before you need it and store your spare solar panels in the rafters of your garage and will save you time constraint problems if this was to occur at an inopportune time (Remember though they do work for 5 - 10 years).

Instead of having to build a replacement solar panel at that time you would have it all ready to go. If or when they finally do decide to stop working you will be ready.

Interchanging not working solar panels with working ones is easy to do even for a layman.  Wind turbines need adjustments or tightening every once and a while and the windmill blades may need to be replaced.

Batteries are a main part of your system and should be kept at optimal operating conditions for peak performance.

This can be achieved by learning to recondition a battery which will save you from purchasing new batteries more often than you should need to.
